Hi friends! Here are my quick reviews for the books that I read in August.

I won’t give descriptions of the books, because the publishers do so much better of a job at that than me, so this will be just a couple sentences on what I ultimately thought. You can click the links (they are all affiliate links through Amazon) to read the descriptions.

This month I read 14 books. (You’ll see from the calendar that I also read Harry Potter, but I only read that as I’m falling asleep, so I don’t count it. I can’t read new to me books when in bed, or else I’ll never go to sleep. 😂)

I’m using the Bookmory app to track my reading, and so far I love it. I am also using Goodreads, only because I only recently found Bookmory, and you know that I have to keep up with my reading challenge!

#1 : Bad Liar by Tami Hoag.
This was an ARC from NetGalley, and releases on September 24. I rated this one 4 stars because it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout, and the plotting of the book made it move along at a nice pace.

#2 : Just the Nicest Couple by Mary Kubica.
This one I gave 4.5 stars. It was so twisted, and truly kept me guessing until the very end.

#3 : I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh.
This one I saw on Instagram, Abby over at crimebythebook said that it was her favorite twist, and I love her book recommendations so I knew I had to read it. I was not disappointed. Seriously, go read it if you love a twisty thriller.

#4 : Death at the Dinner Party by Ellie Alexander.
This was an ARC from NetGalley, and releases September 30. I will admit that I haven’t read very many cozy mysteries, but this series has very quickly become a favorite of mine. I’ve read 3 of the 4, and am impatiently waiting for the 4th. The characters just make me want to move to a small town so that I can solve crimes. 😂

#5 : The Chamber by Will Dean.
This was an ARC from NetGalley, and released August 6. Very rarely have I had a visceral reaction to reading a book, but I legitimately felt like I was claustrophobic while reading this book. When you read it, you’ll see why. It was excellent.

#6 : Sisters Under the Rising Sun by Heather Morris.
This was the pick for my book club. I highly recommend the audiobook of this one simply because of the songs you’ll hear. This book broke my heart so many times. It was fantastic. If you read and liked The Women, you’ll love this one too.

#7 : The Devil at His Elbow by Valerie Bauerlein.
I received this one in this quarter’s Stories & Suspects box from Bantam. If you’ve followed the case of Alex Murdaugh at all, you need this book. It truly reads like a fictional crime novel, and it’s nonfiction. I devoured this one. Simply excellent.

#8 : The It Girl by Ruth Ware.
This was a quickly paced, and fun read for me. I definitely was caught off guard by the ending. Highly entertaining.

#9 : What Does it Feel Like? by Sophie Kinsella.
This was an ARC from NetGalley, and releases October 8. This is based on the author’s life, and is heartbreaking and uplifting at once. How quickly our lives can change…

#10 : Love Story by Lindsey Kelk.
This was a gift from Harper Collins 360. I loved this book, it’s all about how shying away from what we’re most proud of because of how our family might react…and how it can go spectacularly wrong.

#11 : Happiness Falls by Angie Kim.
This one had been on my TBR for quite some time. I was not disappointed. This book propelled me through because I simply could not put it down. A family goes through a devastating event, and the circumstances are incredibly unique.

#12 : Beverly Hills Noir by Scott Huver.
If you enjoy true crime novels, this ones for you…except it’s nonfiction. This book is incredibly researched, with incredible detail. Stories from decades ago until more recent times.

#13 : A Court of Frost and Starlight by Sarah J Maas.
I’m reading through the ACOTAR series for the first time. There had been a bit of a gap for me between books, so I think that this was the perfect way to hop back into Feyre’s world. It felt more lighthearted and fun, and we really got to see some more of the personalities, which I really enjoyed.

and finally #14 : Running Man by Stephen King.
I’m re-reading through my collection of Stephen King novels/short story collections. This book was hugely propulsive, I remembered reading it, but not exactly how it ended. Explosive ending.

That’s it for my August reading reviews. What did you read this month? Let me know in the comments below, because I could always use some recommendations. See you in September!

And keep an eye out for an upcoming post where I’ll let you know what I hope to read in September. 🌴
