Hi friends! Here’s my September Reading Update! This list is long (too long) so bear with me!
Hate Follow by Erin Quinn-Kong : This book highlights the life of an influencer who is desperately trying to keep the facade of a perfect life going, even while things behind the feed are falling apart. I enjoyed this one a lot, we get 2 perspectives, along with some blog posts that are pretty snarky. Multiple plot lines really help to keep the story moving. (I received an free advanced copy of this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.)
A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J. Maas : The 5th book in the ACOTAR series, and we get Nesta’s point of view. I really enjoyed this one a lot more than I thought I would. I wasn’t a huge Nesta fan going in, but this book changed my mind. We also see thought Cassian’s eyes, which was a nice changeup. There are plenty of spicy scenes too, if you’re into that.
I Did Something Bad by Pyae Moe Thet War : After a certain good looking man comes to your rescue after you commit murder, what’s left to do except fall in love with him? All kinds of chaos ensue, I felt like this one flowed nicely and the characters developed well. (I received an free advanced copy of this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.)
The Gunslinger by Stephen King : As I mentioned before, I’m re-reading my Stephen King collection. I personally love the Dark Tower series, so getting back into Roland’s world was a treat for me. It’s hard for me to separate this book because I know how the story ends, but I feel like this was a great introduction to where the following books will lead. It’s a long path, so the lead up needed to be what it is to help us get a grasp on Roland’s character.
A Holiday Honeymoon Switch by Julia McKay : When Holly’s wedding day ends up in shambles, she trades her honeymoon for a wintery getaway to come to terms with everything. Not wanting to give up on paradise, she sends Ivy in her place to be creative and work on her art. Both women find so much more than what they were looking for. This was a cute story, I enjoyed reading. (I received an free advanced copy of this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.)
Sacred Prayer by Ann Voskamp : This is a 90 day devotional, and she asks a lot of tough questions throughout. I think this is a great pickup for someone wanting to deepen their faith. (I received an free advanced copy of this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.)
Gifts & Gratitudes by Ann Voskamp : This is a journal where she invites you to list 3 things you are grateful for each day for a full year. And it’s unique because each month you will be able to look back on what you wrote the month before. (I received an free advanced copy of this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.)
Born Royal by Oneka McClellan : She inspires women to become more deeply intrenched in their calling. And invites us to stand confidently on that call. This is a good book if you’re struggling with those 2 things.
The Truth About the Devlins by Lisa Scottoline : You think you’ve got family drama? You’ve got nothing on TJ. After a prison stint, he’s the investigator for his family’s firm. Who knew that he’d end up investigating them instead. This was an entertaining read. I was pushed through by the need to know how it ended.
Realm Breaker by Victoria Aveyard : This is my first Victoria Aveyard book, but certainly not my last. We are introduced to the Realm Breaker world, and characters. I love the idea of found family, and also she says that this is her love letter to Lord of the Rings, and I find that to be very intriguing. There are a lot of characters to root for in this book, and a few that I can tell I’m going to love to hate. I’m looking forward to the next installment.
Different Seasons by Stephen King : This is such an iconic set of his short stories, and I loved all of them. Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption is so well told, Apt Pupil is astonishingly disturbing, The Body is a classic tale of boyhood friendship, and The Breathing Method is horrifying in it’s own way. They’re all perfectly told, and hard to forget.
Blade Breaker by Victoria Aveyard : The second book of the Realm Breaker trilogy, and she’s such a master at world building, I’m really enjoying this series. This book brings a ton of new drama, and lot’s of wonderfully crafted battle scenes. Can’t wait to see how this series winds up.
Dinner for Vampires by Bethany Joy Lenz : In the interest of full disclosure, I’ve always been pretty fascinated by cults because it’s so interesting to me to see how someone can get so many people to follow them sometimes to the point of death and destruction. And in her book, Bethany shows us just how it happens. It’s such a gradual process, that she was literally brainwashed and had no idea until she did. This book was excellent, I really enjoyed it. (I received an free advanced copy of this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.)
Christine by Stephen King : A true classic, in every sense of the word, Christine is so chilling to read because the imagery that it conjures up is so intense. A car being driven on it’s own that has taken so many lives, including that of a little girl and her mother? This one reads so well, I liked it a lot.
Perfect Fit by Clare Gilmore : This is a cute romance that truly did not disappoint. I really liked how the author highlighted Josie’s #girlboss mentality, and how that is really not a sustainable way to live. The cast of characters here was so enjoyable, and I loved getting to know Josie and Will. (I received an free advanced copy of this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.)
Fate Breaker by Victoria Aveyard : The final book in her realm breaker series, it was the perfect way to wrap it up. I’d highly recommend this series especially if you’ve got teens who are wanting to read from the fantasy genre. This would be the perfect jumping off points. Also, if you’ve got a teen girl who is looking to read about strong female leads, lead them to the Realm Breaker series.
This Girl’s a Killer by Emma C. Wells : This was not my favorite book for the month, I’ll just say that. It was fine, but if you’ve read any type of vigilante justice books, this one will probably feel very familiar. I’d felt like I read it before. (I received an free advanced copy of this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.)
Pet Sematary by Stephen King : This one is so chilling! I remember watching this movie at way too young of an age, and if possible, in my opinion the book is even more haunting. This one stuck with me.
Kill Yours, Kill Mine by Katherine Kovacic : This is another vigilante justice theme, but with a twist. I found this one to be highly enjoyable, and can honestly say that it kept me on the edge of my seat. The title kind of sets you up for what happens, but the methods used are pretty inventive. (I received an free advanced copy of this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.)
April Storm by Leila Meacham : This was quickly paced, and enjoyable. The villain was really not the person that you expected it to be. This was kind of a nice palate cleanser because while it was thrilling to read, I wasn’t edgy and nervous. It was kind of a calm thriller to me, in my opinion if that makes sense. (I received an free advanced copy of this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.)
Get Your Spirit Back by Earl McClellan : This is a good one if you want to want some practical advice on how to step into the calling you feel God has placed on your life. (I received an free advanced copy of this ebook from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.)
That’s it, I’m exhausted. 😂 Share with me your reading update in the comments below.
