Hi friends! I’m back today with my October reads list.
Below you’ll find my thoughts for each of the books that I finished.
After the wild month I had in September, I really fell off this month, which I’m disappointed about. But, progress is still progress, so I’m hesitantly calling it a win.
Here goes…
A Game of Thrones by George RR Martin
Not many people know this about me, but the A Song of Ice and Fire series is my favorite book series of all time. I’ve read through it’s entirety at least 8 times, if not more. It’d been a while since I’d embarked though, so I figured that now was as good of a time as any. I’ve revamped my reading list TBR recently to include books I own that I’d like to re-read, and this series was at the top of the list.
The thing about re-reading a well loved series is that it’s like jumping back in with your old friends. Westeros holds so many characters I love, and those I love to hate. A Game of Thrones never ceases to snag me in from the first page to the last. I absolutely adore this book, and cannot wait to read the final 2 books. (No spoilers, please! Aside from the first few episodes, I haven’t watched Game of Thrones.)
Cycle of the Werewolf by Stephen King
This is a short, albeit frightening tale. We are walked through each month for a year, and watch as a small town is terrorized by killings that no one can quite believe the origin of. Except for one little boy who was able to survive. He tries in his own way to get the killer to back off, but when that doesn’t work, this title comes to an explosive end. This is a book that I tear through, not because of it’s length but just because of the compelling storytelling.
Stephen King is a true master of his craft, and I’ll never be convinced otherwise. This is a great starting off point if you’d like to jump into reading his books.
Be Ready When the Luck Happens by Ina Garten
Admittedly, I don’t read a lot of nonfiction. However, when I saw that the Queen that is Ina Garten was releasing a memoir, I knew would be incredible. And I was not wrong. Her life story is inspiring, and so lovely to read about. She never gave up, or took the easy way out. This was one of the highlights of my reading year. I highly recommend.
A Clash of Kings by George RR Martin
The second in the A Song of Ice and Fire series. I’m kind of biased when it comes to this as I mentioned before, so I’m just going to say that I loved it. There’s dragons, what more do you want?!
The Co-Op by Tarah DeWitt
I received a copy of this ebook from NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. The Co-op releases November 12, 2024.
I thought The Co-op was such a cute love story. Deacon and LaRynn really fight for themselves and their relationship. I love to see how they grow personally, and with each other.
I loved the prologue as well, getting to see deeper into the life they built.
Counting Miracles by Nicholas Sparks
I read this one as part of a book club I’m in. I haven’t read a lot of Nicholas Sparks’ books, but A Walk to Remember is one of my favorite movies so I figured I’d probably like this book too. I would describe this as kind of having a modern day telling of the book of Job. Of course, that’s only half the story. The rest of it involves Tanner, who is out to find more about the family he never knew. Set in idyllic parts of North Carolina, the character development is so good, and the ending is truly satisfying.
The Talisman by Stephen King
While re-reading this book, I came to realize that it’s quite possibly one of favorite Stephen King novels. I tend to be hyperbolic so you’ll hear me saying that many times in the coming months, so try not to hold it against me. 😅 Jack’s adventures through the territories gives such a sense of true adventure, you can’t not root for him along the way. The characters he has to fight in order to complete his ultimate goal are so evil, from the abusive “pastor” to his own uncle…he really has his work cut out for him. And as an actual child, it’s as lot. I love his character, and am looking forward for his return down my book list.
There you have it…
There are my October reads. Not gonna lie, I feel like a failure, but it’s only my own arbitrary goals that are making me feel that way. My goal is to complete my current TBR by October of 2025. So staying on task is important for that. But, once again I’m the only one keeping score.
Let me know in the comments what you’re reading. I’m always looking for new recommendations.
