Sermon Notes : Arresting Anxiousness
- Phillipians 4:4-8
- The most common command given to humans from God in the Bible is fear not.
- Over 300 times in scripture.
- If God says something a lot it’s because we need to hear it a lot.
- God wants everyone to have peace.
- The enemy uses a weapon of anxiousness to keep us from that peace.
- Wasted worry.
- It’s become a social norm but it doesn’t have to be normal for those of us in the kingdom.
- This doesn’t mean we won’t have anxiousness, but we don’t have to let anxiousness have us.
- What happens with them does not dictate and determine what happens with me.
- You’re different from.
- God makes exceptions.
- You don’t have to deny your circumstances but you can deny it’s influences.
- Arresting anxiousness requires making adjustments.
- There’s 4 areas.
- Perception
- Anxiousness doesn’t come from what we see, but it comes from how we see it.
- No matter what you’re in, it may not mean what you think it means.
- Sometimes anxiousness isn’t an event but as a result of our interpretation of what we think it means.
- God redeems the meaning.
- Praise
- Engage in a spiritual of discipline called the practice of gratitude.
- God chooses what God uses to give us what we don’t deserve = a means of grace.
- Prayer. Sometimes God won’t do things because we don’t ask.
- Praise doesn’t get us gifts from God, praise gets us him.
- From omnipresent to manifest present.
- Praise is an invitation for God to show up.
- When God’s in the room anything that’s not like him gets pushed out.
- Psalm 16:11
- Praise shifts our perspective.
- The problem isn’t too big, your God is too small.
- Praise reminds us of his largeness.
- Prayers
- Supplication : making specific requests.
- It’s not to notify God of a needs but to express our dependency and to remind us that we don’t have control.
- We don’t pray to remind God, but to remind ourselves.
- Some of our anxiousness is us trying to play God’s role.
- I can control my actions, but God controls outcomes.
- Some of the weight we carry isn’t weight God gave us, but weight we assumed. Our shoulders aren’t strong enough to handle God weight.
- Practices
- Warning against an undisciplined imagination.
- Spiraling.
- Take every thought captive.
- Don’t allow those thoughts to accumulate because they then become strongholds.
- Has God ever not come through? Has he not given what you needed?

My favorite point of this message is when he talked about some of our anxiousness coming because we are trying to play God’s role. Whoa. 🤯 – Renee
