Sermon Notes : Don’t Let the Funeral Fool You

  • Shift from what I deserve to what He deserves.
  • Gratitude can be a focus before it’s a feeling.
  • Nothing you ever do changes how worthy God is.
  • Luke 24:13-35
  • Just because you’re not aware doesn’t mean he’s not there.
  • Everybody is going through a funeral of some kind.
  • We rush right past the revelation because we only recognize what is being taken away.
  • Refuse to stay imprisoned with what I could have done differently.
  • Move forward with the lessons.
  • You can’t control the outcome of others’ decisions, but you can adjust your expectations.
  • Have a funeral for your expectations.
  • We can set ourselves up to be let down.
  • When you have a funeral for your expectations, God replaces them with grace.
  • God is not through with you yet.
  • God knows what he is supposed to do better than what God is supposed to do.
  • God knows what you’re supposed to be good at more than you do.
  • God knows the situation and the ends to which he intends to use it.
  • You don’t know how it’s supposed to go.
  • There’s more to come that we don’t know about.
  • You don’t get to say when it’s over.
  • When you stop giving you stop living.
  • What don’t you know yet that Jesus has already done?
  • Don’t know November.
  • Jesus goes with you.
  • The praise that hits the deepest is realizing that you’re miles away from jerusalem and Jesus makes a way to be with you.
  • You’re not too far gone.
  • You’re only one thought away from praise, breakthrough, joy and a new beginning.
  • There will never be an event that will separate you from the love of a savior who will follow you when you don’t follow him.
  • Sometimes I’m too foolishness to follow.
  • Why talk about Jesus when you can talk to him?
  • Who you talk to what you’re going through things determines what you’ve got left when you get done.
  • You cannot keep your own counsel in seasons of chaos.
  • Don’t let this season become a stop sign that causes ypu to quit growing and coming towards God.
  • Forget the story you’ve been telling yourself.
  • We can’t change the things that are a part of our story.
  • When Jesus was dying it was the thing that he came to do, they were interpreting that would bring them redemption as the thing that made it all worthless.
  • When you’re hurting your interpretations become distorted and cannot be trusted.
  • That’s when we need Jesus.
  • Every open door is not God.
  • We can’t just need Jesus when we want him.
  • What if God is waiting for you to pray his presence into your panic attack?
  • Jesus is waiting to be more than your weekday savior.
  • Sometimes God delights to be invited.
  • He permeates you when you ask him to.
  • He’s present but he permeates when you give permission.
  • After the bread was broken then their eyes have been opened.
  • It was only after the breaking that the revelation came.
  • This is not the end. (You need to watch to see how Pastor Steven illustrates this point.)
  • There’s gonna be a then.
  • When God gets through with this it won’t be a funeral, it will be a celebration day.
  • Need to find a way in that doesn’t involve my ego.
  • You can’t die in this because there will be a then.
  • Only what is broken can be really blessed.
  • There are certain things in life that are waiting for the appropriate time to come forth.
  • Trust God enough that you leave the then with him.
  • God is calling you back to where you belong today.
  • This is your then.
  • You will even be grateful for the breaking when you put it in his hands.
  • Don’t have the funeral, and bury your faith.
  • Hold a funeral for your expectations and watch God resurrect your faith.
  • Think yourself thankful.

Thank you for taking the time to stop and read these today.

  1. My favorite takeaway from this message is when Pastor Steven said when you have a funeral for your expectations, God replaces them with grace. 🏝
